The side lighting on the child is well balanced and soft which relates to the subject matter as it bring out the curls and captures those blue eyes.
Overall I believe a tighter crop, preferably a square crop would suit this portrait best and a little post processing to remove the highlighted distractions around the black door paired with just a hint of raising the exposure on the child to make them stand out more from the backdrop. - Matthew
