MONO - Sherlock by J McGinley (9 marks)
Strabane & District Camera Club
The portrait format allows you to capture the head and shoulders of the dog and the tight crop ensures you know what the focus of the image is. However I found the Starburst as a catchlight in the eye a little distracting. Being at the same level as the dog I would have enjoyed the dog giving the photographer that eye contact and look that only a dog can give. In the areas that are lit there is great detail in the fur and the wet nose bringing this image to life but the silver collar and very bright highlights in this area does take your attention away from the look on the dogs face and detract from the overall image as does the very dark areas on either side of the ear that just didn't catch the light and detail. - Matthew
